Personal profile

Research interests

I did my PhD research in Electronics and Optoelectronics at University of Algarve (2010-2013) in collaboration with Philips Research Laboratories in the Netherlands, coordinated by Prof. Dago de Leeuw. My PhD degree was classified very good with highest distinction. Since 2014, I am a postdoc researcher on memristor topic at CENIMAT/i3N of New University of Lisbon. I am principal investigator (PI) of the project NeurOxide. I am orienting a multidisciplinary research team consisting of 4 PhD students (granted by FCT under my supervision), one Post-doc researcher contracted in my project and one junior researcher whose work is related to solution-processed memristors. I have supervised 14 Master theses (3 master students ongoing). Concerning international collaborations, currently I supervise a Master student who is going to conduct a research stay at Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany, with Prof. Andreas Klein. I also collaborate with Prof. Weidong Zhang from Nanoelectronics Department of Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) for on-line training of AOS-based memristor cross bars. With Prof. Weidong Zhang, we are aiming at coordinating shared PhD grants between UNL and LJMU (in progress). I also collaborate with SINTEF in Norway for STEM measurements [9]. A collaboration with an African Medical College-AGA KHAN University in Nairobi was submitted to FCT via the project Snappies (in the process of evaluation).

In 2015, I introduced the lecture Electronic Information Storage to Master students of Micro and Nanotechnology and Electronics, which I am lecturing since then. I am regularly presenting my research at international conferences. I have published more than 30 peer-reviewed papers, of which 21 of them were published during the last 5 years. In most of the papers, I am either first author or last author and corresponding author as supervisor of the students. I am also first author of a book chapter in the 2nd editions of Advances in Non-Volatile Memory and Storage Technology, editor from Stanford University [3]. My h-index in Google Scholar is 12. I am involved in the following scientific dissemination actions: I am a member in the organization team of the Advanced Doctoral Conference on Computing, Electrical and Industrial Systems (DoCEIS), since 2016 up to present at UNL. I am Guest Editor of Micromachines (IF: 2.53) for the Special Issue: “Amorphous oxide semiconductor-based memristive devices and thin film transistors”. In terms of international recognition, it was my honour to serve as a jury member of the PhD defence of Dr. Carlos Rosario, whose work was under supervision of Prof. Rainer Waser, from RWTH Aachen, who is the leading scientist in oxide memristor technology world-wide. One of my former Master students is doing his PhD in a collaborative project between LJMU in England and IMEC in Belgium and another former Master student is currently a Marie-Curie PhD fellow at RWTH Aachen, Germany, supervised by Regina Dittmann.
