Abstract

This chapter initially focuses on a comparison of value added flows in the Eurozone,
taken as a whole, with those of other large trade blocs such as the US, China and Japan. The chapter then looks at regional linkages, i.e. intra-Eurozone value added flows, and the roles of individual European countries in global value chains are considered. The analysis covers the period between 2000 and 2011, i.e. the years just after the creation of the Eurozone, the eve of the crisis, the Great Trade Collapse and, finally, the subsequent rebound of international trade.
