Abstract
Education and Training Courses are special programs, intended for students over 15 years and a journey of school failure, that seek to incorporate a basic education and a professional qualification. The study presented here has as its main goal to analyze and understand the choices made by a mathematics teacher during the different stages of her practice in such a course, giving attention to the dilemmas she faced and to the reasons she took into account when making decisions. The main conclusions reached highlight the importance of the tasks proposed to the students and value a learning process focused on experiencing and doing. The main dilemmas identified concern the balance between formal and intuitive knowledge and the way of achieving a consensual balance between teacher's intentions and students' expectations (particularly in what concerns to the assessment process).
