## Abstract

The aim of this study is to build a high-resolution simulation model of the dilution and of the copper and zinc grades of the Zambujal ore deposit of the Neves-Corvo mine. Zambujal is a volcanogenic mabive sulphide deposit located in the southern Portuguese sector of the Iberian Pyrite Belt, and presents a mabive mab at the top and fibural ores at the bottom. To create a model of metal grades in this type of deposit, it is important to take into account the proportion of ore sulphides to waste rock. This proportion acts as a morphological variable and should be modelled prior to modelling the metal grades. Also, if the measured metal grades are recomputed to the ore sulphide fraction, it is expected that the ranges of variograms are filtered from the proportion variable. The results are validated by comparing the estimates of global metal reserves obtained using this methodology with those obtained using ordinary kriging, with the two sets of results shown to be similar. The sets of the simulated images of the proportion of ore and metal grades provide several local solutions for characterizing the uncertainty.
